Google Sketchup April 27, 2008

My brother wanted me to look at some 3d landscaping software for him to do mockups for clients. There are no landscapers in the Eagle River area that do mockups on a computer as far as I know. They usually draw it up on paper. Which is cumbersome, slow, and not easily changed. We were going to try a landscape software that you would typically buy from Wal-Mart but I looked around on the internet first and ran into the free Google Sketchup software. After fooling around for a few hours with the tools and watching some of the video tutorials, my bro and I made a mockup for a job he is bidding in about an hour. I am impressed with how easy the program is to use and there are a lot more features I have yet to discover. There is also a 3d warehouse where models like trees and rocks can be downloaded for free. There didn’t seem to be a very large library though, but it still works.

I did this little mockup for some future landscaping that my bro and I want to do on our own house. This program is quick, easy, and fun to use.
